    SAIC was seeking new space for its Leidos government services business and, with the help of JM Zell, set its sights on Freedom Square. It needed no less than 180,000 square feet with Metro access. The problem: It needed to move in by the first quarter of 2014 at the latest, and there wasn’t enough space to accommodate it at Freedom Square. JM Zell struck a deal for Leidos to sublease 72,000 square feet from NII Holdings Inc. that, along with the space L-3 shed and additional space Boston was able to free up, fit Leidos’ space needs.

    18 ACRE LAND SALE, CRYSTAL CITY, VA

    This deal for the land under Crystal House was long in the making. Archstone, which owned the two-building apartment complex on the site but leased the land, had been negotiating to buy the land for more than a decade. The deal came to fruition in March 2013: Alder Branch agreed to sell the 18 acres in Crystal City for $66.5 million, one of the largest land sales in the D.C. area.
