In February 2017, Norton Rose Fulbright and Chadbourne & Parke agreed to merge into a combined firm known as Norton Rose Fulbright, with approximately 4,000 lawyers and an annual revenue of $2B. The transaction officially closed in June 2017. Pre-merger, Chadbourne needed to assess the effects of a combined entity on its operations, including its real estate and leasehold obligations, to develop a strategy for efficient occupancy post-merger.
In Q1 2017, Chadbourne engaged JM Zell to assess, develop, and execute a real estate strategy that would mitigate risks during and after the merger transaction. The process focused on efficacy of the work environment, operations and efficiency of operating units, and cost per employee. An emphasis was also placed on creating a shared culture in a timely manner. The plan developed by JM Zell formed the blueprint followed by the firms as they successfully merged and operated in the joint facility.
